Many argue that Hamlet is Shakespeare's magnum opus. As the title character, Hamlet, wrestles with his grief affecting every decision, family dynamics gone horribly awry, and a search for self that is both cringe-worthy and triumphant all at once, he and the rest of these characters engross the audience with their actions (or inaction). While we read the play, you will develop your understanding of Shakespeare's language, apply knowledge of diction, detail, organization, and syntax to analysis of text, study characters' motivations, close read and analyze soliloquies, memorize a portion of the play or a sonnet for recitation, role play various scenes, view multiple film clips for comparison/contrast, and just learn about one of the most interesting men in fiction.
